First coronavirus case detected in Meherpur

The district of Meherpur on Wednesday confirmed the first coronavirus case which was reported in Mujibnagar upazila.

The upazila administration put 10 houses under lockdown in the upazila after the upazila Brac office employee tested coronavirus positive, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Usman Goni.

Civil Surgeon Dr Nasir Uddin said five samples were tested. Among them, the young man tested positive.

However, he is doing well and taking treatment from his home, he said.

Hailing from Munshiganj village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district, the Brac employee went to Kushtia and Chuadanga several days ago for official purpose.

After returning to Mujibnagar, he fell sick.

Fifteen other staff members, who came in contact with him, have been sent on home-quarantine and the upazila Brac office has been put under lockdown, said the civil surgeon, reports UNB.
