Fire guts 38 shops in Chittagong

A massive fire that originated from an electric short-circuit, gutted at least 38 shops of a market in Nayabazar area under Patenga Police Station in Chittagong on early Saturday.

The fire broke out at a shop around 4:45am and it soon engulfed the adjacent shops, UNB reported quoting witnesses.

Prahalad Kumar Singh, Assistant Director of Agrabad Fire Service and Civil Defence said, four firefighting units from EPZ and Port Fire Service & Civil Defence rushed in after being informed and doused the flame after one and a half hours of frantic efforts.

The estimated loss caused by the fire is about Tk Tk 10 lakh, the official added.
