At least 22 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at a local market in Kaukhali area of Rangamati sadar upazila early Wednesday.
The fire broke out around 3:00am at a shop of Azam Market and soon spread to the adjacent stores, said Didarul Alam, assistant director Rangamati Fire Service and Civil Defence office.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and brought the situation under control.
The burnt shop owners claimed that estimated loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 30 million (Tk 3 crore), according to a UNB report.
However, the cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
