Farmer Golam Ali prospers by doing hard work

MAGURA, May 30: Farmer Golam Ali has proved that hard work can make anything possible in life. He has turned into a successful farmer from an unemployed poverty-stricken ordinary youth.

In 2004, Ali took lease two bighas of land to grow vegetable. That time he made a profit of Tk 0.1 million which encourage him to extend his lease.

In 2006, Golam Ali started cultivating paddy, jute and other Rabi crops along with vegetables on six bighas of land. That year he was able to make a net profit of Tk 0.3 million.

Later, in 2008, the farmer bought two bighas of land by his own earnings. He decided to cultivate mango, litchi and coconut on commercial basis on the land. According to him, it was one of the best decisions in his life because fruit production had increased earning.

In 2009, he started cultivating varieties of fishes on a 1.5-bigha pond and in 2012, he owned the best fish cultivator award.

Now, the farmer has six acres land. His annual earnings stand at Tk 1.0 million to 1.1 million.

He said his farming area is expanding year to year.

Everyday a good number of youth come to visit his farming area. He is a source of an inspiration to them.

Magura DAE deputy director Partho Pratim Saha said Golam Ali has improved his financial condition by farming vegetable, fruits and fishes. He is an example to other farmers.
