NAOGAON, Sept 26: Growers of Naogaon Sadar Upazila are very delighted over the early bean farming as they are getting handsome profit from the cultivation.
Growers cultivated the early variety of bean in last mid May to June and they are now busy harvesting the crop.
Sources at the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said around 300 hectares of land have been brought under bean cultivation in Sadar Upazila.
Earlier the cultivation of bean was limited to homesteads of the people in the area. Now a days the cultivation has been extended to vast area of land, the sources added.
Bean is being sold at Tk 3,000 to Tk 3,500 per maund at different wholesale markets in the district while per kg bean is selling at Tk 80 to Tk 90 at retail market.
One Afaz Uddin of Gobindapur village under Sadar upazila said he cultivated bean on 18 decimals of land spending Tk 5,000. He is expecting a good profit from the farming.
AKM Mafidul Islam, agriculture officer of Naogaon Sadar, informed favourable weather along with availability of fertilisers for relatively low production cost led to bumper yield of the crop this season.
The profitable farming will see gradual increase soon in the area for the advance pest management system introduced by the field-level DAE officials.
