DAE sets target of producing 115,920 tonnes of potato in Jamalpur

The Agriculture Department has fixed a target of producing 115920 tonnes of potato in the current Robi season in Jamalpur.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources to achieve the production target, farmers are expected to cultivate potato on 4830 hectares of land which is 160 hectares higher than last year’s cultivation.

The office said farmers will cultivate potato on 1590 hectares of land with a production target of 38160 tonnes potato in Bakshiganj Upazila.

Besides, 1300 hectares of land with a production target of 31200 tonnes in Jamalpur Sadar, 440 hectares with a production target of 10560 tonnes in Islampur, 580 hectares with a production target of 13920 tonnes in Melandah, 420 hectares with a production target of 10080 tonnes in Sarishabari and 250 hectares with a production target of 6000 tonnes in Dewanganj and 250 hectares with a production target of 6000 tonnes in Madarganj Upazila have been brought under potato cultivation.

Deputy Director, DAE, Md Aminul Islam said farmers brought more land under potato cultivation this year as they got a fair price of the product last year.

If the weather remains favourable they expect a boost in potato production this year, he added, reports BSS.
