Police detained two people, including the general secretary of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi Sherpur unit over an extortion case on Friday night.
Inspector Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station said Udichi activist Ritesh Karmakar, 37, also teacher of Muktijodda Nizam Uddin Ahmed College, and Amit were arrested from Ritesh’s Nayani Bazar residence around 11:30pm,
Ram Poddar, a businessman at Nayani Bazar, filed the case accusing 25 people, including Ritesh Karmakar, for demanding Tk 50-lakh extortion from him, the OC added.
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi Sherpur unit president Tapan Sarwar, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad Sherpur district unit president Joyosree Das Laxmi and local cultural activists expressed concern at the arrest of Ritesh Karmakar, as per report on UNB agency.
