MAGURA, May 27: A good production of BINA-3 sesame has recently been achieved in the district.
Sources said, growers cultivated BINA-3 sesame on some 10 acres of land in Naliadanga village under Magura Sadar upazila on experimental basis and an abundant production of the crop has been achieved.
BINA Magura official Shampa Rani Ghosh said BINA-3 sesame is a short-duration crop.
It takes only 85 days to be harvested while other common varieties take 130 days.
The variety is high-yielding. Around 20 maunds of yield can be achieved from an acre of land while it is 10 maunds in common variety.
It is enriched with vitamin A, D, E and K.
BINA researchers said that oil from the BINA-3 sesame is completely cholesterol-free.

"If we can expand cultivation of BINA-3 sesame, we shall be able to save huge amount of foreign currency", he added.
