The swimming pool in Chandpur Outer Stadium has been lying useless and abandoned for over three years, depriving the boys and girls of practicing and learning swimming.

The swimming pool was built at a cost of Taka 40 million, funded by Jatiya Krira Parishad, to cater to the needs of the interested swimmers of the district. It was formally inaugurated on February 3, 2008.

In honour of the celebrated son of the district Arun Nandi, the swimming pool was named after him. Since September 2019, it has been remaining shut/locked as its water supplying machine went out of order suddenly due to heaps of dusts and low-depth, said

General Secretary of District Sports Association Golam Mostafa Babu while talking to the FE in his office. Since then, there is not a drop of water in the pool and it has been lying abandoned.

Swimming coach Mohammad Sanaullah Mia said, ''The swimming pool had a capacity to contain 0.5 million gallons of water. Twenty swimmers can practise at a time properly.''

The pool is 170 feet long and 70 feet wide.'

The only swimming pool in the district has been lying idle and uncared for years together. The swimmers can't practise and the new swimmers can't learn swimming.

It is not known when the problems of the pool will be solved.

Swimmers of the district have called upon the authorities concerned to take quick steps in this regard.
