MAGURA, Jan 10: Cattle fattening has turned fortune wheel of Abdul Aziz, a resident of village Nanduali under Magura Sadar upazila. He has no land of his own. Earlier he cultivated land of other people on the basis of lease.
But increasing production cost of cultivation disappointed him. Five years back he made a plan to fatten cattle. With the financial support of a local NGO he purchased two calves at the cost of Tk 30,000.
After about one and half years he has been able to sell his fattened cattle at Tk 80,000. That is he made a profit of Tk 50,000. Such profit encouraged him. He again purchased four calves at Tk 70,000 and made profit of Tk 0.1 million within two years.
At present he is fattening eight calves and he is expecting a good profit from his cattle in the coming year.
When contacted Abdul Aziz said, as I cultivate land I need not to purchase fodder for my cattle from market. I can use the straw and rice husk of my own as the fodder of my cattle. Cattle fattening has changed my life.
Earlier sufferings were constant companion of my life. But the days of my woes are over. Now I am enjoying solvency and a happy life.
By cattle fattening I have not created only self employment. I have created employment facility for others. I have involved a local youth in my cattle farm paying him salary.
Magura district livestock officer Kanai Lal Sharnakar said, we are proud of Abdul Aziz. He has changed his condition by cattle fattening. Nanduali has turned into a village of cattle fatteners and Abdul Aziz is the inspiration here.
