An excellent growth of mustard across the Bogra district has made the growers optimistic of getting bumper production during the current season.

The cultivation of mustard has been easier in the region due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-inputs.

After getting noticeable production previous year, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to produce over 40,000 tonnes of mustard yield in this current Rabi season.

DAE has set a target to bring more than 27,000 hectares of land under the lucrative crops cultivation and the farmers have already planted over 25,000 hectares, said Sub-Assistance Agriculture Officer Faridur Rahman.

Anarul (34), a farmer of Shibganj upazila of the district told FE that he has taken some 40 decimal of land under mustard cultivation in this current season spending around Tk 12000 and is hoping for a bumper yield of the crop.

The farmers are now massively inspired after getting repeated bumper production with satisfactory price in recent years to cultivate mustard on more land after harvesting T-Aman rice, said DAE officials.

The DAE, along with other agriculture-related organisations, has also been providing all the necessary agri-inputs including quality seeds, latest technologies, and fertilisers to promote cultivation of the profitable crops.

Protul Chanda Sarker, Deputy Director of DAE, said the farmers have shown more interest to cultivate high yielding mustard in this season.
