BGB detains 24 Bangladeshis while entering country

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 24 Bangladeshi nationals, who were trafficked to India eight years back, while they were entering the country through Sadipur border in Benapole on early Sunday.

The detainees, including 15 women and nine men, hail from different areas of Faridpur, Narail and Khulna districts, a news agency reported.

Being tipped off, a good number of women and men were crossing the border illegally, a BGB team conducted a drive and detained them, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, the Commanding Officer of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) 49 Battalion.

Later, the detainees have been handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.

Abdul Mannan, one of the detainees, said they went to India eight years back and had been working in Mumbai city. As crackdown is underway there, they returned their homeland.
