BGB arrests 35 in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives detained 35 people, including an Indian national, from Amrakhali and Putkhali bordering areas in Benapole on Tuesday for entering Bangladesh illegally.

Commanding officer of BGB Battalion-21 Lt Col Emranullah Sarker said tipped off that some people were entering Bangladesh without valid travel documents, a BGB team conducted a drive at Putkhali at noon and detained 21 people, including an Indian national.

The detainees include five children and eight women who claimed that they hailed from Narail and Barishal districts, reports UNB.

In another drive, BGB members detained 14 people from Amrakhali border in the morning while they were returning from India without valid documents.

Being informed that crossing the border illegally, several people were going to Barishal by a BRTC bus, a team of BGB raided the bus and detained them, said Lt Col Ariful Haque, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49.

The detainees were later handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he added.
