Benapole port users threaten indefinite strike

Seven port users' organisations have threatened to go for an indefinite strike at Benapole port protesting 'harassment by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members through seizing their imported goods.'

The decision was taken at a meeting on Friday.

The organisations are - Benapole customs clearing and forwarding agents association, import and exporters association, truck owners association, transport owners association, truck workers union, C&F agent staff association and Benapole port workers union.

Mofijur Rahman Sazon, president of Benapole customs clearing and forwarding agents association, alleged that BGB men harass importers by seizing their legally imported goods.

Denying the allegation, Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer of 49 Border Guard Battalion, said BGB members do not harass the importers, reports UNB.
