SYLHET: A total of 7,706 tonnes of high-yielding Boro seeds have so far been supplied to the farmers in Sylhet division this season through the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC).
Joint Director of BADC (Seed), Sylhet region, Suprio Pal said there is a high demand of high-yielding Boro seeds among the farmers.
BR-14, BR-26, BRRI-Dhan 28, BRRI-Dhan 29, BRRI-Dhan-50, BRRI-Dhan 55, BRRI-Dhan 58, BRRI-Dhan 63, BRRI-Dhan 67 and BRRI-Dhan 74 are the most popular Boro seeds in the district, he added.
The official further said there are 565 dealers at the BADC and four sales centres in the region.
Of the total, 1,830 tonnes were sold in Sylhet, 696 tonnes in Moulvibazar, 1,149 tonnes in Habiganj, and highest 4,031 tonnes in Sunamganj.
The supply would continue for another week, as the season is passing fast, Suprio Pal added.
However, a good number of well-to-do farmers are using their own preserved seeds.
It can be mentioned here that about 9,500 tonnes of seeds had been supplied in the region last year and another 2,000 tonnes had been distributed among the grassroots farmers free of cost.
