A group of fishermen have caught about 300 maunds (1 maund = 37 kg) of fish in a single cast of the net that earned them Tk 600,000.

Md Kalim Ullah, a fisherman from Pan Majher Para, and his team netted the fish near the beach in the Pashchim Para region of Shah Pari Island in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf. They secured the boon from the sea during low tide on Monday morning, reports bdnews24.com.

Locals throng the western beach on Shah Pari Island after news spreads that fishermen caught a bounty of fish with a single cast of the net.

Most of the fish caught in the net were small sea fish frequently found in local markets.

Fisherman Md Kalim Ullah said that he caught about 300 maunds of fish in a single cast of the net on Monday morning during low tide.

Wholesalers bought the freshly caught fish from Kalim Ullah and his team as soon as they pulled the net. Although a portion of the fish will hit local markets fresh, most of them will be taken for processing into dried fish.

Just a day ago, Kalim Ullah said he caught fish worth Tk 400,000 from the sea.

Fisherfolk from the Shah Pari Island have said that this year they have caught more fish compared to the past few years.
