8th grader saved from child marriage

A mobile court foiled an early marriage bid in Charbania village in Sadar upazila of Sirajganj district on Monday night, reports UNB.

The victim, an eighth grader at a local school, is only 13-year-old.

Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman said a mobile court, accompanied by police, foiled the child marriage attempt acting on a tip-off.

The girl’s father Abdul Barek was trying to marry off his daughter to Monir Hossain, 25, son of Foysal Ahmed of Digholkandi village in the upazila.

Barek was let go after he signed an undertaking promising not to marry off his daughter before she turns 18.
