7,151 people under home quarantine in Rajshahi div

A total of 7,151 people have, so far, been put under home quarantine in all eight districts under Rajshahi division till 8:00am today (Sunday) since March 10 last to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 5,706 were given clearance certificates after expiry of their 14-day quarantine till this morning in the division during the same period, said Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya.

Meanwhile, a total of 51 new persons have been kept under home quarantine and 376 other patients were released in the division over the last 24 hours till this morning.

Among the new ones, 18 have been home-quarantined in Rajshahi, six in Chapainawabganj, two in Naogaon, eleven in Joypurhat, seven in Bogura, four in Sirajganj and three in Pabna districts.

Dr Gopen Acharya said currently a total of 20 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation units and nine others were released in the division.

Besides, he said a hectic measure has been adopted to bring all the migrants and other suspects under home quarantine to stem the virus spread.

He also said comprehensive efforts are continuing to ensure following the health-related guidelines like staying at home, social distancing and washing hands with water and soap.

The armed forces and other law-enforcing agencies have also intensified their activities to enforce the health related directives everywhere in the division aimed at curbing the virus outbreak.

Meanwhile, the civil administration and police have taken hard-line against spreading rumors related to the virus.

On the other hand, all the district administrations in Rajshahi division have expedited their activities for bringing all the hand-to-mouth families under food support programme.

More than 2,640 tonnes of rice was, so far, distributed among 2,49,862 families while Taka 79.86 lakh in cash among 1,13,700 families in the division, said Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khandaker, adding there are more 2,262 tonnes of rice and Taka 95.84 lakh in cash in stocks at present for distribution.

The division has 609 doctors and 1,196 nurses in 169 public and private hospitals with 4,119 beds, including 1,753 prepared beds for treatment of the COVID-19 infected patients to face any emergency situation.

Besides, 6,223 personal protection equipment (PPEs) have already been distributed to protect the frontline medical people from infection of the virus, the commissioner said, adding 4,169 other PPEs remain stockpiled at present, reports BSS.
