A mobile court in Sylhet on Wednesday awarded six months' imprisonment to six people for hunting migratory birds in the Tanguar haor, a sanctuary, in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj.

The convicts are Azim Uddin, son of Basir Miah, Shafique Miah, son of Shukur Ali, Yesmin Miah, son of Nurul Haque, and Sonarul Miah, son of Khairul Amin, of Lamagaon village in the upazila.

A police team arrested the four hunters along with 18 migratory birds from the sanctuary in the morning, reports UNB.

Later, they were produced before the mobile court, led by Executive Magistrate Mohammad Al Amin, which handed down the verdict, said Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Ahad.

They were later sent to jail, he said.

The rescued birds were also released in the Sadar upazila parishad pond, the DC said.
