Derek Chollet, counselor to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Dhaka on Tuesday.
He was received by the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Ambassador Masud Bin Momen at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.
He is leading a seven-member interagency delegation to visit Bangladesh on February 14-15, 2023.
The delegation includes Mr Clinton White, counselor to the administrator at the USAID; Ms Elizabeth Horst, principal deputy assistant secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, US Department of State; Ms Beth Van Schaack, ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice and three other members, a spokesperson of the foreign ministry said.
The purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations and government-to-government ties with an elevated focus on the Rohingya humanitarian response.
During the visit, the US delegation will call on the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Minister, and also will have a separate meeting with the Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) along with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
The US Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Peter D Haas and Embassy officials are expected to accompany the delegation in the meetings.
