Coronavirus: Govt to shut edn institutions if necessary, says Quader

Terming present coronavirus situation in the country "normal", Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said it does not demand closure of educational institutions.

However, the government will decide in time if any situation demanding it arises, he told a press briefing at the party's central office in the city on Saturday, according to local media reports.

Other initiatives that are necessary will also be taken considering the coronavirus situation, he said.

At present, the government has sufficient preparation to tackle the coronavirus situation, the ruling party leader added.

Later, he distributed leaflets to raise awareness about coronavirus or COVID-19.

Death toll from the virus reached 5,436 globally as of Saturday. Besides, 145,810 new cases were reported from around the world, according to worldometer.

Of them, 67,843 are currently infected, while 72,531 patients have recovered.
