Conference of gender equality in SA begins at DU

A two-day South Asia Regional Conference on gender equity and access to justice began on Monday.

The conference titled "Gender, Rights and Choices: Access to Justice in a Megacity" started at the University of Dhaka (DU).

The Department of Law of Du and Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) jointly organised the conference at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium.

Inaugurating the conference, DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman urged the professionals, lawyers, academicians and social activists to work together to make Bangladesh as a county of gender equality, social justice and women empowerment.

Several others including Ambassador of Netherlands in Bangladesh, Leoni Margareth Cuelenere and BLAST executive director, Sara Hossain addressed the programme while Senior Advocate of Bangladesh Supreme Court, Dr Kamal Hossain, Senior Advisor of Empowerment Network, Marlom J Manuel, Consultant of BLAST, Barrister Faria Ahmad and Professor of Public Administration of DU, Dr Ferdous Jahan presented their papers in the opening ceremony.

Dean of Law Faculty Dr Md Rahmat Ullah presided over the inaugural ceremony.
