Cold-wave likely from tomorrow

A fresh spell of mild cold-wave, also likely to be the last of this winter season, may sweep over some parts of the country from tomorrow (Tuesday).

Besides, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its weather forecast that in 24 hours light rain or drizzle is likely to occur in different regions of the country, although the weather may remain dry in most other parts until 9.00 am on Monday. The cold-wave may not be as long as other cold-waves of this year, a meteorologist at the BMD told the FE on Sunday.

The mild cold-wave may especially sweep over some parts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions as well as some other parts of country, meteorologist at the Dhaka met office Md Aftab Uddin added.

Examining weather data across the country, the met office predicted that the spell of cold-wave is like to continue with intervals, and some parts of the country may witness fall of mercury to 10 degree Celsius.

The fresh spell of cold-wave may start with fall of temperature from Tuesday night. Besides, temperature may rise and fall until January 31, he noted.

Light rain or drizzle is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions. The weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky on a temporary basis elsewhere over the country, according to the met office.

Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country from late night till morning. Night temperature may fall by 1-2 degree Celsius, and day temperature may fall slightly over the country.

The bulletin predicted that night temperature may fall further in next 72 hours.

The country's lowest temperature was 12 degrees Celsius in Sreemangal on Sunday, and the lowest temperature in the capital was 16.4 degree Celsius, the met office recorded.
