The High Court directed on Sunday the government to clear the 'ambiguity' in the Children Act within January 15 next year.
A bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on Sunday to ensure holding trial of an adult accused in a case filed for child murder and rape cases.
Earlier on October 15, the High Court sought explanation as to why the government has not amended the Children Act yet.
Social welfare secretary Zillur Rahman and Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Senior Secretary (Drafting wing) Mohammad Shahidul Haque appeared before the court this afternoon.
Later, the court said "the Child Court now has turned into a court of adults, victims are minor while the offenders are adults. The obscurity of the Act should end."
Under the Children Act, 2013, only the child court is empowered to hold trial of the offence if a child is a victim or witness of the case.
But, there is no specification as to which court will hold the trial if an adult person is accused in a case under this child law.
