A madrasa student, who was injured after being beaten by his teacher, died at the Madaripur Sadar hospital on Wednesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Asif Matabbar, 12, a second grader at Qawmi Madrasa at Gachbaria village in the upazila and son of Anwar Madbar of Kendua upazila of Netrokona.
Quoting family members, Saugatul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Yusuf Ali, a teacher of the madrasa beat up Asif on Sunday. The boy later went to his village.
But Asif’s parents took him to the madrasa again on Tuesday and left him here.
On Wednesday, the madrasa authorities took Asif to the Sadar Hospital saying he had drunk poison but the boy died a few minutes later, said Akhil Sarkar, a physician of the hospital.
On information, police recovered the body and detained Abul Bashar, a teacher of the madrasa in this connection.
