Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) is set to build a mega container terminal for enhancing capacity of the country's premier maritime port.
The information was revealed at a view-exchange meeting of CPA with all the port users and stake holders at the body’s training institute auditorium on Sunday.
The terminal, named Laldia Multi-purpose Terminal, will be built on 52 acres of land at a cost of Tk 30 billion.
Five members of a consortium along with Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide funding for the project.
It is going to be implemented under Public-Private Partnership (PPP), according to BSS.
Speakers also informed that the project involves the construction of bulk cargo and container handling terminal.
The project also includes construction of berths, storage facilities, loading and unloading facilities, an administrative space and the installation of equipment with safety and security systems.
Representatives from the BGMEA, BKMEA, and other organisations attended the meeting, among others.
