Chinese woman hospitalised with fever in Rangpur

A female Chinese national was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with fever on Sunday.

Zing Zong, 29, an employee of a Chinese company at Uttara Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Nilphamari, was admitted to the hospital at noon with fever and breathing complications, said RMCH Assistant Director Dr Rustam Ali.

Zing, who actually fell sick on Saturday, has been kept at the Corona unit of Isolation Ward of the hospital, report UNB and bdnews24.com.

“We’ve already informed the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), they’ll collect the samples of Zing’s saliva, blood and sweat for test,” Dr Rustam Ali said.

“It is not confirmed yet whether she is infected by the new coronavirus,” he added.

The Chinese national joined her workplace in the northern district on arrival in Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport on February 4.

She was cleared by the health workers who were running thermal screening of travellers from China at the airport, Rostom said. "But she fell sick on Saturday," he added.

Meanwhile, five Bangladeshis were infected with coronavirus or Covid-19 in Singapore.

The viral outbreak that began in China has so far infected more than 68,500 people and killed 1,665 others, according to figures released on Sunday by China.
