Bangladesh Bank (BB) has extended the timeframe for banks to participate in Tk 10 billion refinance scheme for restructuring, modernisation and building new cinema halls by another year.
The extension of the timeline comes as some banks started showing their interest to take part in disbursing credits under the refinancing scheme in a bid to bring back once glory of the struggling movie industry.
Issuing a circular, the central bank's banking regulation and policy department said the deadline for interested banks to join in the refinancing scheme was December 31, 2022.
But major portion of the scheme remained unused while some banks recently approach to the BB and show their interest to be involved.
Under such circumstances, the BB decided to extend the deadline for interested banks to get involved in the scheme up to December 31, 2023.
