A Bangladeshi cattle trader was killed and another injured by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Bamaldal border point in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.
Lt Col Golam Morshed, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangaldesh (BGB) of Lalmonirhat-15, said a team of 25 cattle traders, including Azhar Ali, 35, son of Moinul Haque of Rahmanpur area in Patgram upazila, went to India on September 10, reports UNB.
While they were returning to the country with a consignment of cows on Tuesday, a BSF patrol team of Kuchbihar-61 battalion hurled crude bombs and pieces of stone towards the Bangladeshi cattle traders, leaving Azhar dead on the spot and some of the traders injured.
On Thursday, BSF men recovered the body of Azhar from the upstream of the Saniajan River and informed BGB.
However, the BSF personnel have not yet handed over the body to Bangladeshi police through Indian police said Lt Col Morshed adding BGB sent a protest letter following the incident.
Later, a commander-level flag meeting was held between Kuchbihar-61 BSF and Lalmonirhat-15 BGB on Friday morning where BSF denied handing over the body.
