Call to reform land and property rights of BD women

Women have been subservient to men socially, economically and culturally for a long time due to traditional and religious laws and male-dominated society, speakers at a discussion have said.

They called for making a reform in the land and property rights of women in Bangladesh at a programme, organised by Association for Land Reform and Development or ALRD, on Saturday.

Speakers came up with the remarks at a roundtable discussion titled ‘Role of Women in Marching towards Development: Land Rights, Recognition in Agriculture and Measures’ at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Saturday.

The programme was Chairperson of ALRD Khushi Kabir presided over the function.

Deputy executive director of ALRD Rownak Jahan Moni presented a report on the current status of the women in Banngladesh.

National Human Rights Commission member Banchita Chakma, seniour journalist Abu Sayeed Khan and Executive Director of ALRD Shamsul Huda, among others, spoke at the event as panel discussants.

The speakers and the participants of the programme also called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to ensure the fundamental and land rights of the women in the country.
