Business leaders have expressed their gratitude to Financial Express Editor AHM Moazzem Hossain for his contribution to promoting the country's trade and commerce.
Expressing their deep shock at the demise of late Hossain, they said he was the promoter of the private sector.
The FE editor breathed his last on Wednesday evening at Square Hospital in Dhaka.
He was suffering from heart and lung complications.
"Whenever we want any informative news or opinion related to the economy, we look for the FE," said Nihad Kabir, president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
"Undoubtedly, this is his contribution," she noted.
Through the FE and participating in various discussions, especially the budget-related ones, he raised analytical and sharp questions, Ms Kabir said.
The discussions on the accountability, a place to raise question and positioning are important and he played a strong role in this regard.
He always tried to uphold the standards of financial reporting, she said.
"Mr Moazzem was an extraordinary gentleman with extraordinary in-depth knowledge," said Abul Kasem Khan, president of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He was a man of positive attitude and this is the inspiration for the entire business community, Mr Khan said while recalling the contribution of the FE editor.
"He had in-depth knowledge of economy, local and international business. And meeting him or attending any discussion with him was a learning for us," Mr Khan said.
"We have lost an extraordinary and knowledgeable person who was a big promoter of the private sector," he said.
"Not only with me but also I saw that he had interaction with my father. And I noticed that he had a mentality of pro-business and pro-investment. He played a great role in promoting trade and business throughout his life through his writing and out of media activities."
"Mr Moazzem was bold, honest and courageous journalist, the combination of which is rare," said Atiqul Islam, former president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
He always published the real and true facts, he said.
Recalling his contribution to promoting the private sector, the BGMEA leader cited an event titled 'Apparel Summit' held after the Rana Plaza building collapse.
The FE Editor participated in the event and assured the readymade garment sector of help to overcome the situation then.
There is no alternative to Moazzem Hossain who could bring out the potentials and opportunity of the private sector such as banking, textiles and energy, said Anwarul Alam Chowdhury Parvez, a former BGMEA president.
He could present all the required information, which is easily understood by the business community.
He presented things in such a positive manner and comprehensively that encourages an entrepreneur to think over, Mr Parvez said.
"The FE is a guidebook for businesses as there is no other financial daily that can guide the community," he noted.
