A Bangladeshi cattle trader was reportedly beaten to death along Chapainawabganj frontier in the early hours of Sunday.

The trader was Dalim Majhi, 23, son of Monglu Majhi of Nisipara village in Panka union of Shibganj upazila.

The incident took place at Jahurput Tek border in sadar upazila of the region.

According to Kamal Uddin Hoda, chairman of Narayanpur union, members of India's Border Security Force (BSF) detained Dalim on Saturday morning from Patlatola camp near 19/4 no. bordering pillar when he along with a group of cattle traders entered India to bring cattle.

Later, the BSF members beat him to death with rifles, said the chairman.

The body was rescued and brought back to his house at around 6:00 am by fellow cattle traders, said the chairman adding that the body bored several injury marks.

Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar, commanding officer of BGB-53 battalion, said they have heard about the incident, reports UNB.

"But it was not clear whether Dalim was tortured to death by BSF members."
