British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson has termed the Rohingya crisis a “man-made tragedy”.
He said the problem could be resolved with the 'right political will, tolerance and cooperation' from all those involved.
Boris Johnson made the comments in a statement following his arrival in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
“I want to see and hear for myself the terrible things these people have been through," he said.
The British top diplomat said he will discuss with Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and other regional leaders about the solution of this appalling crisis.
“The plight of the Rohingya and the suffering they have had to endure is one of the most shocking humanitarian disasters of our time,” he said.
This is the first official visit by a British foreign secretary in 10 years.
According to bdnews24, Johnson met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after his arrival in Dhaka.
On Friday night, he would meet his Bangladesh counterpart Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali.
He will visit Cox’s Bazar on Saturday.
The British foreign office said after Bangladesh, he would be visiting Burma and then Thailand.
