BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s lawyers have filed an appeal with the High Court (HC) challenging her sentence in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
Law affairs secretary of BNP Barrister Kaiser Kamal on Tuesday afternoon said they filed the appeal around 3:30pm with the HC against BNP chairperson's sentence in the graft case.
BNP standing committee member and Khaleda's one of the counsels Moudud Ahmed after receiving the 1174-page certified copy of Khaleda's verdict on Monday said they will try to file the appeal and seek bail for her as early as possible.
UNB said the court on February 8 last read out a 632-page summarised version of the verdict.
Local TV channels say that the hearing on Khaleda’s appeal will be held on Thursday.
A HC bench comprising Justice Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim will hear the petition, reports Ekattor TV.
Earlier, the special court on February 8 convicted the former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Later, she was sent to old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in the city.
