BNP, alliances to hold meetings to finalise next steps

Jatiya Oikyafront, BNP and 20-party alliance are going to hold separate meetings to discuss their next course of action In the wake of a massive debacle in the 11th parliamentary elections.

The top leaders of Jatiya Oikyafront are going to sit in a meeting on Monday evening to work out its next course of action, report bdnews24.com and UNB.

The meeting is scheduled to be held at Oikyafront convener Dr Kamal Hossain's Motijheel chamber, Gono Forum leader Amin Afsari said.

Amin Afsari said the senior leaders of the alliance will evaluate the election results and finalise their future action programmes.

Dr Kamal Hossain, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, JSD president ASM Abur Rob, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and other senior leaders of Oikyafront are expected to join the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the alliance cancelled its press briefing scheduled to be held at the Jatiya Press Club at 12 pm.

Meanwhile, BNP standing committee members sat in an emergency meeting at BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office at 4pm to analyse election results and finalise their future course of action.

BNP senior leaders are also scheduled to hold another meeting with the top leaders of the 20-party alliance at the same venue at 6pm.

Meanwhile, the BNP Standing Committee, the highest policy-making forum of the party, was scheduled to hold meeting this evening at the BNP chairperson's office in Gulshan. 

The BNP-led 20-Party Alliance’s meeting will be held in the same place following the standing committee meeting.

Later, the Jatiya Oikya Front alliance steering committee will meet at the chambers of the alliance’s chief, Kamal Hossain, in Motijheel.

The Awami League won 259 of 299 seats in Sunday’s election. Their Grand Alliance won 288 seats.

The Awami League is about to form a government for an unprecedented third consecutive term after winning the election on Sunday.

On the other hand, Jatiya Oikya Front’s largest member, the BNP, won five seats while the Gono Forum won two.
