BGMEA for stronger monitoring to avert accidents during Eid

BGMEA for stronger monitoring to avert accidents during Eid

Apparel manufacturers on Thursday urged the government to strengthen its monitoring system so that buses, trains and launches do not carry excessive passengers to avoid unwanted accidents ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President M Siddiqur Rahman made the call at a press conference at BGMEA Bhaban in the city.

The BGMEA chief also urged the drivers to drive safely to help passengers get a trouble-free journey back to home and while returning to their workplaces.

Many home-bound passengers die due to road accidents ahead of Eid and it is happening every year, he said.

The BGMEA president also claimed that all factories have paid Eid bonus to its workers and have paid their salaries for the month of May, reports UNB.

He also claimed that 90 per cent of the factories have announced their Eid vacation and the remaining ones will go on holiday by Thursday.

"We received a list of some factories from different organisations where problems might appear regarding the salaries. Following the information from BGMEA Crisis Management cell and other organisations, we brought total 1200 factories under close monitoring," said Siddiqur Rahman.

He said they have resolved problems in 35 factories and addressed problems related to salary payment through the direct intervention of BGMEA.

"Like every year, a central crisis control room was set up at BGMEA headquarters ahead of Eid while separate crisis management committees worked for one month in 15 zones across the country to ensure the salary of workers are paid before Eid", he said.
