Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 12 pieces of gold bars, weighing 1.4 kg, from Khalshi Bazar in Putkhali bordering area in Benapole on Wednesday.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-21 conducted a drive in the area and seized the gold bars worth Tk 58.40 lakh in an abandoned condition around 6:15 am, said Lieutenant Colonel Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-21.
No one was arrested in this connection as the smugglers managed to flee the scene, he added.
Later, the seized items were deposited to Benapole Customs House, reports UNB.
