Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) rescued at least 41 people, including women, children and Indian nationals, while they were being trafficked from India to Bangladesh through Putkhali Border in Benapole on Tuesday morning.

Lt Col Tarikul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-49 battalion, said acting on a tip-off, a team of border force conducted a drive in the area and rescued 21 women, 15 men and 5 children while they illegally entered Bangladeshi territory.

Most of victims hailed from Narail, Faridpur and Khulna district.

One of the victims Rahima Khatun said a gang of traffickers brought them to Putkhali border from India’s Bongaon area.

However, the traffickers managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the law enforcers.

Later, they were handed over to Beanpole Police Station. A case was filed with the police station.
