The consular services of the new Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto will begin on December 17, a day after the observance of the victory day.
This is so far the 18th foreign mission opened under the current government as part of its “plan to raise Bangladesh’s effective representation throughout the globe”.
The Consulate General’s Office said this was a “commitment” of the present government to open a Consulate General for the Bangladeshis living in the Greater Toronto Area, reports bdnews24.com.
The Bangladeshi expatriates living in Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Colombia, Albterta and Manitoba will come under this new consulate’s jurisdiction.
Initially, the Consulate General will provide services relating to travel documents, visas, attestation, power of attorney, endorsement and consular consultations.
The Department of Immigration and Passports in Dhaka is working on the installation of MRP/MRV/e-passport services in the consulate.
This new mission also symbolises the “strong bilateral relations that exists between Bangladesh and Canada”.
In addition to consular services and community welfare, the new Consulate General will contribute “to develop people to people contact and boost trade and commerce between the two friendly countries,” it said in a statement.

The Consulate General will be open on Monday to Friday from 9am to 5 pm and will remain closed on the weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and government holidays.
The consular services will be rendered on working days and visiting hours will be from 10 am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm.
