BD reports two more coronavirus deaths, 665 cases

Two more people died of the novel coronavirus disease, or COVID-19, in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to 8:00am on Sunday, raising the tally to 177.

Moreover, 665 others were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the same period, taking the number of such cases in the country to 9455, said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General (Administration) of Health Services (DGHS), while briefing the media live at 2:30pm.

This is the highest single-day cases the DGHS has so far reported since March 08, when it first reported three new cases in the country.

The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 5368 samples during the period under review, she said.

Globally, as of Sunday afternoon a total of 244,876 people died and 1,126,291 recovered from the virus disease, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Including both the dead and recovered, a total of 3,497,047 have so far infected by the virus, the website data shows.

Again, of 2,125,880 people who are currently infected, 2,075,017 (98 per cent) are in mild condition and the rest 50,863 (2.0 per cent) in serious condition, it adds.

The novel coronavirus disease was first reported in China in December last year.

As the COVID-19 began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic on March 11 this year.
