BD-KSA joint body stresses better working conditions for domestic helps

A joint technical committee of Bangladesh and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) on Thursday discussed various problems faced by Bangladeshi domestic helps working in the Arab country.

It discussed the issue on the last day of a two-day meeting held in Riyadh, according to a message received from Saudi Arabia.

Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Dr Nomita Halder led a five-member Bangladesh delegation to the meeting while Deputy Minister Dr Abdul Aziz Al Ammar led the Saudi side.

Different issues, including payment of Bangladeshi workers' wages and allowances on a regular basis, giving them opportunity to communicate with their families in Bangladesh over phone, speedy sending of injured workers and deceased workers' bodies home, were among the agenda of the meeting.

The meeting discussed reduction of the immigration cost by stopping the visa trade in both the countries and agreed on bringing some changes to the existing Standard Employment Contract, reports UNB.
