Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh reached 8,231 on Friday, a rise of 571 from the previous day, while related deaths increased by two to 170, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Additional Director General (Admin) of the DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana presented the latest figures while briefing the media live on the daily health bulletin at 2:30pm.
The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 5,573 samples in the past 24 hours, she said.
The new deaths included one male and as many female.
Also, 14 more patients have recovered from the disease during the period under review, taking the total number of recoveries to 174.
Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 234,264 as of Friday noon.
It has so far infected 3,318,739 people around the world, according to Worldometer - a website that provides real-time updates.
Of them, 2,035,967 are currently being treated and 50,934 of them are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 1,048,508 people have recovered.
