BARD annual planning conference begins

The 53rd annual planning conference of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) has been started at its own premises in Cumilla district on Saturday.

Md. Tazul Islam, Minister, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh was present at the programme as the Chief Guest while A.K.M. Bahauddin, MP, Cumilla-6 was present as Special Guest.

Md. Rezaul Ahsan, Secretary, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division chaired the inaugural session of the conference while Director General of CIRDAP Dr Cherdsak Virapat was present as Guest of Honour says, a media release.

A total of 105 participants comprised of representatives of different ministries/division, University teachers, eminent scholars, and faculty members of the BARD attended the two day-long conference.

Md Tazul Islam shared that BARD had contributed immensely to rural development in Bangladesh. He further added that some experimental projects of BARD were replicated nationwide.

The minister informed the august gathering that the present LGED, Upazila Complex and BADC were the fruits of some of BARD's successful experimentations.

Md. Rezaul Ahsan, Secretary, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division and Chairperson of the inaugural session said that the conference was a unique tradition that BARD followed every year.

While delivering the policy paper, he said that in the last year, BARD organised 263 training courses in which a total of 9550 participants participated.

He shared that in the last year BARD completed 14 researches. The Secretary informed the audiences that BARD conducted four ADP funded projects and other 13 projects funded by BARD revenue budget. Thereafter, he requested the participants to participate actively and provide their valuable comments on the presentation and activities of BARD.

Additional Director General of BARD, Dr. Masudul Hoq Chowdhury offered thanks to all participants in the Annual Planning Conference.

He said that the participation of the learned participants would make the conference lively and effective.

Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Director (Administration), was the conference convener while Salah Uddin Ibne Syed, Joint Director and Kamrul Hasan, Assistant Director, worked as Associate and Assistant Conferenc Convener respectively.
