Bangladesh reports seven more coronavirus deaths, 497 new cases

Bangladesh has recorded another seven deaths from the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the 24 hours to 8:00am on Monday, according to the DGHS official.

With the latest victims, the death toll due to the deadly virus infection reached at 152, Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana said.

On the 51th day after Bangladesh registered the first case of such infection on March 08, a total of 497 people were tested positive afresh by the COVID-19, during the same period, taking the number of such cases in the country to 5913, Dr Nasima said.

Among the seven deceased, six were male and another female, she added.

A total of 3,812 samples were tested across the country during the period.

Besides, nine new patients made recovery in the past 24 hours, raising the tally of recovered patients to 131.

Earlier on Sunday, five more people died and 418 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

Coronavirus, first reported in China, has so far infected 3,004,887 people globally and killed 207,254 of them, according to worldometer.info, a website that provides real-time updates.

Of the infected, 1,914,724 are currently being treated while 57,623 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.

As the virus began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
