BD confirms one more death from coronavirus, 18 new cases

One more person died from the coronavirus disease in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to nine, health and family welfare minister Zahid Malik has said.

Besides, 18 other people were diagnosed with COVID-19 during the period, raising the number of such cases in the country to 88, he said in an online briefing on Sunday.

The latest single-day number of cases is the highest the government has so far reported since it reported first three known cases on March 07.

Earlier on Saturday, the government confirmed two deaths and nine new cases, in terms of the single-day new cases, that was the highest until that day.

As of Sunday, a total of 1,203,859 people have been infected by the virus across the world, of whom, 64787 died and 247,301 recovered, according to worldometer.info, an website that provides real-time updates.

Again, of the infected, 891,771 are currently being treated while 44,094 of them are in serious or critical condition, according to the website.

Coronavirus, first reported in China in December last year, is affecting 206 countries and territories around the world and two international cruise ships.
