The central bank has scrapped the recruitment tests for eight state-run banks over allegations of mismanagement in the exams held on Friday last.
The decision came from an emergency meeting of held at the Bangladesh Bank (BB) headquarters with BB Governor Fazle Kabir in the chair. BB Executive Director Ahmed Jamal was also present.
A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the mismanagement. The committee has been asked to submit its report within two weeks, said Abul Kalam Azad, a general manager of Bangladesh Bank.
New dates of the tests will be announced soon, the BB spokesman told reporters on Tuesday after a meeting of the Bankers' Selection Committee.
Among those asked to attend the emergency meeting were members of the Selection Committee, which administers the exams, and the chief executives of 14 banks and financial institutions.
