BD adds 50,000 virus cases in 14 days, tally tops 150,000

The number of confirmed Covid-19 patients surpassed 150,000-mark in Bangladesh on Thursday, 117th day of the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported 4019 new cases, highest single-day spike, taking the number of such cases in the country to 153,277.

On June 18, the number of confirmed Covid-19 patients surpassed 100,000 in the country. It took just 14 days to cross the level of the next 50,000.

The DGHS registered 38 more death from the deadly virus today, taking the country’s total death to 1926.

Among the diseased, 32 were men and 6 women, while one was between 21-30, two were between 31-40, two between 41-50, sixteen between 51-60, eight between 61-70, seven between 71-80, two were between 81-90 years old, Additional Director General of the DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana said.

Eleven were from Dhaka division, twelve from Chattogram, five from Khulna, five from Rajshahi, one from Rangpur, two from Sylhet, and two from Barisal division.

Thirty-three people died in hospital, and five in their homes, the DGHS senior official added.

Simultaneously, 4,334 people recovered from the respiratory disease, bringing the overall number of recovery to 66,442, Dr Nasima said.

A total of 18,362 samples were tested in 70 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 802,697 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Wednesday, 41 people died and 3,775 people tested positive for the highly infectious disease.

According to the state-run Directorate General of Health Services, 63,608 people now remain in both home and institutional quarantine while 15,757 others in isolation.

Globally, 10,825,885 people were infected with the novel coronavirus and 519,366 have died until Thursday 3:30 pm, according to Worldometer data.

Of the infected, 4,260,117 are currently being treated while 57,935 of them are in serious or critical condition, the website data shows.
