Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said assassination of Bangabandhu has delayed Bangladesh’s LDC graduation.
Sheikh Hasina believes if the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman remains alive, Bangladesh would be a developing country within 10 years of independence.
The Prime Minister came up with the statement addressing a discussion in Dhaka on Sunday.
Bangladesh Awami League arranged the discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre marking the 98th birth anniversary of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children's Day.
"I fondly believe Bangladesh would have been a developing country within 10 years of our independence had Bangabandhu been alive," she said.
The Prime Minister said, "Today, we've got recognition as a developing country. We've been able to achieve it after 37 years since 1975, though Bangladesh could have achieved it a long ago if the black day like 15th August 1975 had not come in Bangalees' life."
Noting that there had been conspiracy in 1975 so that Bangladesh could not progress, Sheikh Hasina said those who came to power after 1975 had never wanted that Bangladesh to be self-reliant economically.
She said they rather had wanted to do everything to make Bangladesh a failed state as they were busy making their own fortune. "Had they had good will Bangladesh could have developed a long ago."
On Thursday last, the United Nation declared Bangladesh a developing country as it attained all the three graduation criteria for the graduation from the LDC group.
According to UNB, AL President Sheikh Hasina presided over the discussion.
AL leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Abdul Matin Khasru, eminent writer Selina Hossain and noted artist Hashem Khan, among other, addressed the discussion moderated by AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Hasan Mahmud.
Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on March 17 in 1920.
