A committee, formed for bringing discipline to the public transport sector in Dhaka metropolitan areas, has banned rickshaws on some roads in the city.
The roads are: Gabtali to Azimpur via Asad Gate, Science Lab Crossing to Shahbagh via Bata intersection and Kuril to Syedabad Bus Terminal through Badda, Rampura and Khilgaon.
According to bdnews24.com, the ban will be effective from Jul 7.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor, also the head of the committee, Sayeed Khokon said the decision was taken during a meeting of the committee at his office on Wednesday in an effort to discipline chaotic traffic.
