Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has begun AD-8 canal excavation to end waterlogging at Kasaibari-Ashkona-Kaula-Banarupa Housing areas in Dhaka.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam inaugurated the excavation of AD-8 canal in the Civil Aviation Cemetery area (opposite La Meridian Hotel) in the capital on Saturday.

Once the excavation of the canal is completed, the obstruction of water flow in different places of the 1.8 km long canal from the side of Ashkona Hajj Camp to Banarupa Housing will be removed while the waterlogging of Kasaibari, Ashkona, Kaula and Banarupa Housing areas will be over to a large extent.

While inaugurating the canal excavation, Mayor Atiqul said once the construction work of the canal will be completed, the people’s sufferings will also be ended fully.

Mr Atiqul claimed that due to improper cleaning system of WASA drain, waterlogging was also taking place at Sasatbari and Madhubagh areas of Magbazar whenever it rained.

However, the people are repeatedly holding responsible for the city corporation for the sufferings, he claimed.

The city mayor said the DNCC is committed to lessen the sufferings of the city dwellers anyway.

Mr Islam also urged the Civil Aviation Authority and the Dhaka Water Supply & Sewerage Authority (DWASA) to fulfill their respective responsibilities.

The DWASA was established on 1963 as an independent organisation with the mandate of Water Supply and Sewage disposal to the city dwellers of Dhaka.
